Velox Privacy Policy
In short: Velox uses your location to show your speed and record your routes. Your routes are stored on your phone. Nothing leaves your phone unless you turn on cloud sync, and there are no accounts, ads, analytics or trackers.
Who we are
Velox is made by walker-jones.eu. Questions about this policy or your data: dev@walker-jones.eu.
Location
Velox reads your precise location from your phone's GPS to show your speed, distance, altitude and heading, and to record routes. It only does this after you allow location access.
- On the speedometer screen, location is used while the app is open.
- While you record a route, the Android app keeps using location with the screen off or while you use other apps, so the whole route is recorded. A notification ("Velox is recording") is shown the whole time, and it stops when you stop recording.
- Velox does not use your location for anything else and does not track you when you are not using the speedometer or recording.
Your routes
Recorded routes (positions, times, speeds and altitudes) and your settings are stored only on your phone. You can export a route as a GPX file, share it, download a backup, or delete routes at any time in the app. Uninstalling the app deletes them from the phone.
Cloud sync (optional, off by default)
If you turn on cloud sync, your routes are uploaded over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to the Velox server at walker-jones.eu, so you can open them on another device. Sync uses a 12-character sync code instead of an account: the server stores routes under a one-way hash of the code and never stores the code itself, your name, your email address or your device. Anyone who has your sync code can see the routes stored under it, so keep it private.
When you delete a synced route, its data is erased from the server; only its random ID and the time of deletion are kept, so your other devices remove it too. To have everything stored under your sync code removed, delete your routes in the app with sync on, or email us your sync code.
Deleting your data
Routes on your phone: in Velox, open a route and tap Delete, or go to Settings and tap Delete all routes. Uninstalling the app also deletes everything it stored on the phone.
Routes stored with cloud sync: with sync turned on, delete the routes in the app as above; each deletion is sent to the server and the route's data is erased there straight away.
By email: send your sync code to dev@walker-jones.eu and we will erase all routes stored under it within 30 days. We do not need your name or any other details.
What is kept: after a route is deleted, the server keeps only its random ID and the time it was deleted, so your other devices remove it too. These contain no location, speed or other route data. Nothing else about you is stored, because Velox has no accounts.
Maps
Maps are shown with tiles from OpenStreetMap. To show a map, your device requests the map tiles for the area on screen from OpenStreetMap's servers, which see your IP address and that area, as with any website. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy. Velox sends no other data to third parties.
What we do not do
- No accounts and no sign-in.
- No advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting and no tracking.
- We do not sell or share your data.
Permissions in the Android app
- Location (precise): speed and route recording.
- Foreground service and notifications: keep recording with the screen off, with a visible notification.
- Internet: maps and optional cloud sync.
Children
Velox is not directed at children under 13.
